Departure checklist

Bedroom: Leave the bed as is—no need to strip the sheets.

Bathroom: Place used towels in the washing machine, but don’t start it.

Windows: Lower all the shades throughout the house.

Kitchen: Dispose of any perishables, or freeze and label any leftovers you’d like to keep for your return.

Water system: In the storage closet through the laundry room, unplug the water heater and hot water circulator.

Utilities: Turn off all lights and adjust the thermostat to an appropriate temperature.

Keys: Return the house keys and garage door opener to the key lockbox on the green rack on the porch.
